Universal Credit (Housing Costs) – What landlords need to know

  • Date: 09:45, Thu 25th Feb 2016
  • Location: Weston-super-Mare

The continuing roll-out of Universal Credit to new JSA claimants at the moment and likely extension to other groups in certain areas from 2016 with the beginning of the Digital roll out presents a number of challenges to social landlords and their tenants. This course will provide you with essential information for preparing staff, advising tenants and minimising arrears.

Make sure your staff know how the new system will operate and differs from HB

  • How will the new system impact on rent collection, options for managed payments, when will tenants be paid , backdating, how will changes in rent and moves affect the claim?
  • When will housing costs be included in the claim?
  • Will the sanction regime affect the housing costs element?
  • Non-dependant deductions and size related rents will be considered. When will rent arrears deductions be made?

These and other issues relating to how the new system will operate will be considered in this one day introductory/intermediate course.
